How to build an audience that actually converts

Coca Cola has 146k Instagram followers. Nike has 236M followers and Tesla motors has 9.6M Instagram followers. All these followers however, are not their customers. This proves the point that having followers, likes or website visitors is useless if no one buys from you.  No doubt these top brands have built an audience for themselves, their marketing goal could vary from small brands. Although the purpose of having followers, likes and website visits remains the same, that is increase in sales and brand awareness.

We have often heard that we can learn a lot from the likes, dislikes of our audience on social media and website analytics. But will we be able to understand anything if they do not interact at all. An audience that does not engage is no audience at all. It is important that your audience reacts to your content so that, you can get an insight in their likes and dislikes.

So, how do you build an audience that engages with your content and also buys from you?

Here are 5 tips to do that:

Tip 1. Email List:

It was 1971 when Ray Tomlinson invented and developed electronic mail, as we know it today, by creating ARPANET’s networked email system. The first email marketing blast was sent in 1978. The sender was a man named Gary Thuerk who worked for Digital Equipment Corp. His email blast was sent to 400 recipients as a promotion for his company’s computers, and it actually resulted in $13 million in sales. This shows the significance of Email Marketing. Email marketing is still very useful and is been adopted as a marketing strategy by many B2B businesses. It is important that you build an email list via various options like exit pop-up forms, subscriptions, etc. You can also run ads on your landing page and collect emails of your visitors. Emails can be personalised and used as a perfect marketing tool to convert your potential buyers into loyal customers.

Tip 2. Video Content:

Video content directly connects you with your audience’s emotions and thoughts. Hence, you can deliver your message more accurately and more directly through a video content. It is also observed that video content is more engaging than written text. So, create more and more video content to reach out to your audience. You can also repurpose your video content and use it on a different marketing platform to engage audience over there. An audience that connects well with you emotionally, will surely buy from you and also be your loyal customer.

Tip 3. Personalised response

Marketing has become a completely different game now. Personalized marketing is something most of the brands have adopted to attract and keep their audience engaged with their brands. Sending personalized emails, SMS, WhatsApp etc have become a new method of marketing. Thus, in such a scenario it will be a real turn off if the response to the audience is generic. The response too, has to be tailor made for your audience.

Tip 4.Communicate:

A conversation is always two ways and hence to connect with your audience and keep them engaged you need to talk to your audience. To do that answer their questions, reply to their comments, run contests and plan give aways. This keeps your audience engaged and makes them your loyal customers too.

Tip 5. Create Value:

Imagine that you open your email inbox and see 10 mails from our brand and all mails are selling something. What would be your response? Your response would be to block us forever. This incident will also leave a negative impact of our brand on your mind. The result would be, that we lose a customer. You cannot be aggressively selling in your email blast. For this remember one rule 90% of your emails should give some value to your audience, the rest of the 10% should be sales emails. Only then your audience will buy from you and also be loyal to your brand for a long time.

These may seem to be very simple steps to follow. But if you follow these steps consistently, you will surely get an engaging audience that buys from you.
